Violence broke out after Turkish police stormed the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) headquarters in Ankara following a court decision that removed party leader Özgür Özel and reinstated former chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. Officers fired tear gas, smashed through barricades around the building, and carried Özel out of the premises amid clashes with those inside. Published on 24 May 2026.
