Right-Wing Commentator Deported After Overstaying Visa

British commentator Milo Yiannopoulos has been arrested by U.S. immigration authorities and deported to the United Kingdom after officials determined he had been living in the country unlawfully.

The Department of Homeland Security said Immigration and Customs Enforcement took him into custody on Aug. 27 at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and removed him from the country days later. According to the department, Yiannopoulos entered legally in May 2019 and stayed past the period he was authorized for. An immigration judge issued a final order of removal on July 22 after he failed to appear at a scheduled hearing.

Yiannopoulos built a career as a provocateur, attacking political correctness, feminism and Islam, and drew accusations of ties to white nationalist movements. He resigned from Breitbart News in 2017 after a video surfaced in which he appeared to endorse sexual relationships between adult men and younger boys, remarks for which he later apologized. A campus tour that year drew large student protests.

He interned for Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene in 2022 and worked on the brief presidential campaign of Ye, formerly Kanye West. He has been a vocal supporter of aggressive immigration enforcement, at times calling for mass deportations.

His standing on the right had eroded before his arrest. Greene resigned from Congress earlier this year after a public break with President Trump, and Yiannopoulos had himself criticized Trump, arguing the president was captured by powerful interests on issues including Israel. Conservative activist Laura Loomer said on social media that she had urged authorities to act against him, accusing him of inciting violence, though she did not describe the conduct she meant.

The department said it would not allow people in the country unlawfully to travel freely within it. Yiannopoulos did not respond to requests for comment.
